The Ensemble
The Mud Music Ensemble, led by composer/saxophonist Stan Harrison, is dedicated to the performance of modern music with an emphasis on both composition and improvisation. Mr. Harrison, equally comfortable playing saxophone with Radiohead or composing for string quartet, writes music which reflects his background as a classically trained musician as well as his solid experience as a jazz, R&B and rock and roll soloist. The Mud Music Ensemble, with woodwinds and string quartet as its core and here with the addition of upright bass and drums, is now performing Mr. Harrison’s film-noirish compositions based on his CD, The Ties That Blind. These pieces, many of which are expanded for live performance are haunting, exciting and filled with unexpected twists and turns.
The most impressive aspect … is Harrison’s arrangement capabilities. Harrison has arranged for Serge Gainsbourg, David Bowie, Talking Heads, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and They Might Be Giants. He brilliantly shows off these skills…—Michael Broyles from The Daily Vault
